Another great release from this year. Iconoclast is definitely one of the best 2011 albums. Heavy and extremely aggressive, I think these guys, when they composed this album, probably they work up with the wrong foot, and they left home very pissed with the whole world. It’s quite interesting the Iconoclast theme. Apparently, this is about the dark side of technology, the oppression by the machines and the way human beings became hostages of them, and regards to a new behavior caused by social network stuff.
In my opinion, this is one of the best Symphony X’s albums. For some reason, they released 2 different versions of Iconoclast. Anyway, I strongly recommend to get the two-cd special edition version because it’s very hard to point a lousy song in here. For those familiarized with the band, there’s no need to say about Michael Romeo’s undeniable quality (guitars and band leader) who simply made a impeccable job here. However, the main highlight goes to Russell Allen. Several moments in this album, he reminds Ronnie James Dio, without losing his own signature voice. Well, he sounds like Dio, what else can I say? Great 2011 release, it worth every cent paid for it.

Iconoclast: Great! Great way to start the album. Unmistakable style, a legit Symphony X.
The End of Innocence: Great!
Dehumanized: Great! Somehow, it feels like Dio was here. Just listen to the chorus… Dehumaniiiized!
Bastards of the Machine: Awesome! Highlight for the lyrics. Very modern, there’re many bastards of the machine around. “Enslaved and hypnotized – chained to artificial lives, you’re the bastards of the machine”. There’s a Dio presence here also…
Heretic: Awesome! Powerful and strong riffs. Nobody would bother you in traffic, just listen to ii very loud. People will be scared.
Children of a Faceless God: Good one. Interesting to notice that heaviness doesn’t need to come with speed. It can be heavy and slow or (not so fast) and still it’ll sound heavy.
When All is Lost: Awesome! Heavy solos, light solos, and a marking chorus.
CD2:
Electric Messiah: Awesome! One of my favorites.
Prometheus (I’m Alive): Good one.
Light Up the Night: Great! Aggressive from the beginning to the end.
The Lord of Chaos: yeah… ok. It’s doesn’t pick much of my attention.
Reign in Madness: Awesome! Several different moments in this song. Heavy prog metal of the best quality.
Mind-blowing album. Score: 10

Mais um grande lançamento de 2011. Iconoclast definitivamente é um dos melhores discos do ano. Pesado e extremamente agressivo, tenho a impressão que os caras, quando compuseram o álbum, acordaram com o pé esquerdo e saíram revoltados com o mundo. Extremamente interessante a temática do álbum. Aparentemente, Iconoclast trata sobre o lado negro da tecnologia, a opressão das máquinas e de como nos tornamos reféns da mesma, e a respeito de um novo comportamento determinado pela força das mídias sociais.
Na mina opinião, este é um dos melhores discos do Symphony X. Sei que por algum motivo, lançaram 2 versões deste álbum. Recomendo altamente pegar o cd duplo. Difícil apontar uma música que seja realmente ruim aqui. Para quem conhece, nem é preciso dizer a respeito da inegável qualidade de Michael Romeo (guitarras, e líder da banda) que fez um trabalho impecável neste álbum. Porém, acredito que o grande destaque aqui são os vocais de Russell Allen. Sem perder suas particularidades como vocalista, em diversos momentos neste álbum, por algum motivo os vocais me lembram o grande Ronnie James Dio. Preciso falar mais alguma coisa? Grande lançamento de 2011, o disco vale cada centavo pago por ele.

Dehumanized: Ótimal! Dio baixou por aqui, basta ouvir o refrão pra comprovar. Dehumaniiiiiized!
Bastards Of The Machine: Sensacional! Me chama atenção aqui as letras da música. Muito atual, vários bastards of the machine por aí. “Escravizados e hipnotizados - acorrentados a vidas artificiais, you’re the bastards of the machine”. Dio incarnado de novo em algumas passagens.
Heretic: Sensacional! Riffs extremamente poderosos. No trânsito, outros motoristas se afastarão quando tocar isso no seu rádio. Entregadores de jornais, vendedores de doces, mendigos e ladrões, ninguém vai se aproximar. Ouça com o volume no máximo...
Children Of A Faceless God: Boa. Após uma seqüência hiper violenta de 5 músicas, eis aqui uma música um pouco, mas só um pouco mais calma. Interessante notar que o peso da música não implica em ser rápido.
When All Is Lost: Sensacional! Partes calmas, solos pesados, solos cadenciados e um refrão marcante.
CD 2:
Electric Messiah: Sensacional! Uma das minhas favoritas do álbum.
Prometheus (I Am Alive): Boa.
Light Up The Night: Ótima. Nervosa do início ao fim.
The Lords Of Chaos: é… Ok. Talvez a música que menos me chamou atenção.
Reign In Madness: Sensacional! Vários momentos diferentes nesta música. Prog metal da melhor qualidade.
