Heavy Camerata Overview - January 2011

In January 2011 we are starting our monthly overviews regarding the most important events in Heavy Metal scene. Hope you enjoy it! So, let's do it:

STRATOVARIUS Elysium's Release
The first big release of the year promises to be a success in blowing Heavy Metal fans minds. STRATOVARIUS returned to the studio to create their 13th album, which brings their signature sound to a brand new level. Check our post about Elysium’s review. The year seemed to be starting perfectly to them except for Jorg Michael’s cancer fight and Kotipelto problems with his voice.

NAMM 2011 – The products
NAMM 2011 has shown this year why this convention is considered the Mecca for musicians and music industry. While I was writing this post I got curious about how old NAMM was and I discovered in Wikipedia that started in 1901!!! That’s what I call a successful convention.
Some of the cool stuffs launched this year at NAMM 2011 included:

Akai SynthStation 49 - Akai’s 49 key synthesizer is a great follow up to the SynthStation 25, which worked with the iPhone and iPod Touch. SynthStation49 is the only full-featured, professional keyboard controller allowing direct MIDI performance recording onto an iPad.

Spectrasonics/Bob Moog Foundation OMG-1 - Designed by Spectrasonics' Eric Persing, this is a one-of-a-kind instrument that combines several hardware and software products into one jaw-dropping whole. Not for sale folks!

Gretsch G6128T-GH GEORGE HARRISON Tribute Duo Jet Guitar – This guitar is an actual replica of the all-black 6128 Duo Jet Harrison played with the BEATLES from 1961 to 1963. There are only 60 pieces in the world!

Orange Amps Launch TH100 Head – According to Orange Amps TH100 head is the big brother of the TH30. This mighty head delivers more tone, greater power and more features. And one of the best things in my opinion is that they kept the pretty cool style from Orange amps!

NAMM 2011 – The Shows
NAMM 2011 had good musicians and performances in its list of concerts and performances. See below some of these amazing appearances:

STRYPER with JEFF SCOTT SOTO and CHRIS JERICHO
Christian hard rockers STRYPER were joined by legendary hard rock vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (MALMSTEEN, TALISMAN) for a performance of the BOSTON classic "Peace Of Mind". Just a small brief for Brazilian fans who are waiting for Soto’s concert in February 5th.

CHRIS JERICHO (FOZZY) the WWE wrestling superstar joined STRYPER to perform SCORPIONS’ Blackout.

LITA FORD
LITA FORD is back and innovating. LITA released a single from "Wicked Wonderland" on Stockroom.com, the world's leading fetish site. Here is a small Jam with Ronnie Montrose. Shall we call it Cougar Metal????

YNGWIE MALMSTEEN with TIM “RIPPER” OWENS
YNGWIE MALMSTEEN new album "Relentless" which features vocals from TIM "RIPPER" OWENS, sold around 1,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. This is a small perspective of what to expect from his concerts with RIPPER OWENS.

DREAM THEATER got back to studio
Progressive band DREAM THEATER entered the studio moving on after Portnoy’s left in September, 2010. John Petrucci wrote on his Twitter profile, “First day in studio [and] the dawn of a new era for DREAM THEATER. Can't wait to get the music flowing." It was sad that Portnoy tried to re-join the band unsuccessfully and ended his participation with AVENGED SEVENFOLD. Portnoy, you’ve got yourself a bad deal…

Upcoming Concerts and Tours
January could be a vacation month for most of the bands but also a busy month for their managers in terms of confirmations for upcoming festivals. Except for 70000 tons of metal which is happening probably now, there are a lot of festivals being schedule for these year. Take a lot of some of that:

M3 Rock Festival
WHITESNAKE, TESLA, LITA FORD, KIX, WARRANT and L.A. GUNS are among the confirmed bands for the M3 Rock Festival, set to take place May 13-14, 2011.

70,000 TONS OF METAL
