Review: Circle II Circle Consequence of Power

Interessante como são os álbuns em que Zak Stevens está envolvido. Desde a época de Savatage, tenho a impressão que os discos são mais ou menos, porém sempre existe aquelas duas ou três músicas que salvam completamente todo o trabalho.

Em Consequence of Power (2010) não é diferente disso. Dentre todos os discos do Circle II Circle, entendo que este seja o mais fraco. Porém (ah... sempre tem o porém...) o disco se salva por 2 ou 3 faixas. Destaco aqui a faixa-título Consequence of Power, a quase-comercial Take Back Yesterday e a balada Blood of an Angel . Não sei por qual motivo, mas a música Consequence of Power me lembra muito um heavy anos 80, de uma maneira diferente que não consigo explicar. Enfim, gostei muito do trabalho da guitarra base nesta faixa. Riffs progressivos, certamente uma música que precisa ser ouvida.

No geral, gosto muito do trabalho do Zak Stevens, da maneira como ele desenvolve as melodias todas girando em torno de sua potentíssima voz. Quem não se lembra do magnífico trabalho vocal em “Chance” (Savatage - Handful of Rain) ou em “Burden of Truth”? De qquer maneira, voltando ao disco, recomendo ainda escutar a muito boa Take Back Yesterday e a belíssima Blood of na Angel, e só. Ouvi o disco repetidas vezes, dei várias chances pra ver se conseguia aprender a gostar de alguma outra faixa, mas no final só ficou essas na minha cabeça mesmo.

Burden of Truth e Delusions of Grandeur continuam sendo meus favoritos do Circle II Circle. Mas como escrevi anteriormente, o resultado de todas as 2 ou 3 músicas que se salvam de cada disco é impressionante e inquestionável . Uma coletânea de Circle II Circle certamente deveria ser discografia básica para quem curte prog metal.

Neste sentido a grande recomendação é assistir ao show do Circle II Circle! Se não vale pelo último disco, definitivamente e absolutamente vale pelo conjunto da obra!

It’s interesting how sound the albums that Zak Stevens is envolved with. Since Savatage period, my impressions aren’t the best, but there are always those 2 or 3 songs that completely save the entire job.

Consequence of Power is no different than this. Within all Circle II Circle albums, I fell that this is the weaker one. However (ah… there’s always a however…) the album worth itself by 2 or 3 tracks. Highlights for “Consequence of Power”, “Take back Yesterday” and the ballad “Blood of an Angel”. I don’t know why, but the Consequence of Power song reminds me a lot heavy metal from de 80’s, in a way I can’t explain. Anyway, what I enjoy the most here is the rhythm guitar. Progressive riffs, a must listen song definitively.

Overall, I really appreciate Zak Steven’s works. The way his powerful voice fits on every melody he made. Who don’t remember the magnificent vocal work on “Chance” (Savatage – Handufl of Rain) or “Burden of Truth”? Anyway, regarding this last album, yet I recommend to listen the good one “Take Back Yesterday” and the beautiful “Blood of an Angel” and that’s it. I’ve listened to it over and over again, to give a chance to enjoy any other song, but in the end, that 3 songs were the only ones.

Burden of Truth and Delusions of Grandeur are still my Circle II Circle favorite ones. But as I said previously, the result of those 2 or 3 best songs on every album is impressive and unquestionable. A compilation of those best songs would make a must listen basic discography for every prog metal fan.
